A different world

Dear students!
It is a pleasure to introduce you to my blog. This week you can read a text which mentions a few of the signficat events that took place one hundred years ago, in the year 1911, and look at some of the huge differences between the world then and now.
Click on the link and...have fun!! You can hand in the exercises from the text in class if you want.

See you!

April (Spring has come at last!)

The world is crazy, don't you think? If you have a look at newspapers you'll see there are lots of disasters around the world.
First, we are going to read this text and do the exercises. It is about the nuclear energy and its pros and cons.

I have the answers so if you want to check your exercises ask me in class!!

The second exercise today is BBC!!
This link will tell you about words commonly used in English but not seen in a classroom

The next link is about BRIDGES (yes, apparently not a very cool topic!!) listen to the video and understand everything. then, maybe you can leave me a message talking about your favourite bridge in the world and why.

Dancing Queen

Dear students
this week, let's move your bodies. Do you feel like dancing? Listen to this survey in London where some people speak about dancing. Remember you always have the tapescript just in case you need it. Listen to the text first several times and then check that you have understood reading the script.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/general/expressenglish/2011/03/110303_ee_dancing_page.shtml

Did you like it? I guess so! Now, something I'm sure you know. Have you heard about "Dad dancing"? It's the funny dance that parents do at weddings, for example. Again, here you have a text from the BBC, to listen and to read.

Finally (or eventually, remember?) there is a nice section in the BBC learning english website which teaches us words that we don't usually study in class but are widely used when speaking in the street. Here you have two examples: "wee" and "awsome". Do you want to know their meanings and see some examples?

Dear students
Verb patterns is always a tricky grammar point as you can't study any rule. The best way to learn them is with practice, practice and more practice.
Here you are some online exercises. Have fun and good luck!

Easy, isn't it?
Another one

Julian Assange

Dear students
Surfing the net I found this interesting article about the so famous Wikileaks. Please, read it and do the exercises. You don't need the key because just reading the text you can check on your own if the exercises are correct. Anyway, if you have doubts, ask me please!

And, as always, if you have a personal opinion about this topic, feel free to post it in the blog. See you in class!
